Korbach, Germany, March 2014. Coinciding with the launch of BMW’s new water-cooled R1200RT—one of the most capable sport-touring machines on the market—Continental is proud to introduce the new ContiRoadAttack 2 Gran Turismo tires, which will be original equipment on the R1200RT.
Based on Continental’s well balanced and proven ContiRoadAttack 2 tires, the Gran Turismo tires were developed specifically for today’s high-horsepower heavyweight touring machines. To optimize the tires for the demands of R1200RT, Continental engineers added additional carcass plies for enhanced stability and handling, and also developed a new tread compound for greater durability. The new tires will feature Continental’s trademark checkered flag pattern along with a “GT” designation embossed on the sidewall.
The Gran Turismos offer outstanding grip, light handling, and excellent stability through Continental’s three core technologies: MultiGrip, TractionSkin, and ZeroDegree belting.
MultiGrip technology balances durability with grip via tread rubber that progresses from harder to softer from the crown to the shoulders. Additionally, the Gran Turismo tires benefit from Continental’s innovative TractionSkin treatment, which leaves the tires with a rough, residue-free finish that provides for an exceptionally safe and short break-in period. Beneath it all is Continental’s ZeroDegree steel-belt construction, which allows engineers to tune carcass stiffness for an optimum balance between straight-line stability and compliance while leaned over.
